Accessibility Statement
At Cambridge University Press & Assessment (‘Cambridge’), we want everyone visiting the English Shop to feel welcome and able to access the site with ease.
We are committed to making the English Shop as accessible as possible. We follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, which set standards for making digital content accessible to people with disabilities and usable for everyone. The guidelines include three levels of conformance (A, AA and AAA). The aim for the English Shop is level AA and we are currently actively working on implementing the guidelines.
We also work to ensure compliance with relevant accessibility legislation where applicable and above all seek to consider the customer's experience at the heart of everything we design.
Our Approach
The English Shop follows a mobile-first design approach to ensure accessibility and usability across all device types. The site is fully responsive, adapting to desktop, tablet, and mobile devices. Accessibility testing is performed on a range of devices and browsers to maintain a consistent experience. We also review and improve accessibility as part of our ongoing design and development process.Â
Platform Accessibility / FeaturesÂ
The English Shop has been designed and developed with accessibility in mind. We aim to provide a consistent and usable experience for all users, including those relying on assistive technologies.
The site includes the following accessibility features:
- Consistent layout and navigation: Pages follow a predictable structure and visual hierarchy, helping users find information and perform actions more easily.
- Keyboard navigation for major interactive elements, with visible focus indicators to help users track their position on the page.
- Screen reader support: The English Shop is compatible with major screen readers. Key site elements, including navigation menus, product listings, and forms, have appropriate labels and landmarks.
- Form accessibility: Input fields, buttons, and error messages are properly labelled to support clear guidance when completing forms.
- Text resizing and zoom: The site supports browser zoom up to 400%, with most content remaining readable and functional. Some layouts are being refined to further improve reflow at higher magnifications.
- Skip links for main content: Users can quickly jump to the main content of each page to streamline navigation.
- Responsive design: The site adapts to different screen sizes, making it accessible on desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.
- Video content: Where video content is provided, playback controls and captions are included to support accessibility for users with hearing or motor impairments.
- Alt text for images: Some images on the site include descriptive alternative text to support screen reader users.
